Scenic Drive

1/20/2013

17-Mile Drive is one of the world’s most scenic roads. The majority of the drive is owned and operated by the Pebble Beach Corporation.

The nonresidents have to pay a toll to use the road. Visitors receive a map that points out some of the most scenic spots. The dashed red line on the map will lead through the Del Monte Forest and along the Pacific coast, to Carmel and the Pebble Beach.

The numerous turnouts allow stopping to take pictures, walk along the ocean or among the trees and enjoy the dramatic scenery.

A unique offshore turbulence generated by the submerged terrain is visited at The Restless Sea vista point.

Among the scenic attractions is the Lone Cypress Tree (Cupressus macrocarpa) which is the official symbol of Pebble Beach and a frequent fixture of television broadcasts from this area.

Various artists over the years have found inspiration for their paintings of flora and fauna along this famous coastal landmark.
