Grenoble, the capital of the Alps in France, is an ancient city and a significant scientific centre.
The city is built at an altitude of 214 meters (702 ft) on the alluvial plain of the Isère and Drac rivers and is surrounded by mountains. Mountain sports, hiking and biking are important tourist attractions all year round. Grenoble is also famous for its walnuts!
